Pam Moody
Ceramic Artist , Tampa, FL
I am a native Floridian, born in Sarasota, FL & raised on "The Treasure Coast" in the town of Ft. Pierce. Living the Florida lifestyle along the Atlantic coast included countless hours with friends & family, boating, swimming, fishing, and exploring the ocean & many Indian River islands. This environment afforded me the opportunity to study, play, & personally interact with the abundant marine & wildlife prevalent in the area. To this day, these experiences remain a major influence in my work. In 1981 I moved to Tampa to attend Tampa Technical Institute, earning a degree in Commercial Art. Shortly after, I met & married my husband Bob, with whom I have raised two extraordinary daughters. I currently reside with my family in the Citrus Park area of Tampa.I am self-taught in the Ceramic Arts & hand-build all of my works from earthenware & stoneware clay bodies. As a native of Florida, I am especially interested in creating both indigenous & invasive species of my state. I enjoy portraying subjects in a realistic format, as well as a non-traditional, humorous, or out of context state. One of the most important elements I put into my work is the ability to capture movement & personality, which in turn gives life to an otherwise inanimate object. Each work is an original, one of a kind. I never use molds or armature, building each piece with slab, coil, & sculpting techniques. My pieces are then low-fired in an electric kiln, hand-glazed & re-fired. Most of my works are sculptural in nature, but I do aspire to make functional forms as well. I always strive to reflect the wonder & beauty found in this world through my art.In 2008, I founded The Creative Native Gallery located in Tampa. The gallery proudly features a clay studio & original paintings, photography, glass, metal, ceramics, mixed media & jewelry created by talented local & native Florida artists.
